I drive by this little cemetary every night on my way home and I've always thought it would be a great spot for a blog picture. With the sun shining and the leaves turning, it seemed as though there was no day but today.
I'm not a person who finds cemetaries scary. My grandma used to take me to the cemetary in Palmyra, Missouri where a lot of our family is buried. We'd spend warm summer afternoons laying on the ground doing grave rubbings with paper and charcoal. She'd tell me stories and reminisce about her childhood. She used to drive me around the small towns where she grew up - we'd pull off the side of the road, set up lawn chairs, sketch pictures of old rundown barns...and she'd tell me stories. We'd spend lazy summer mornings on her front porch sifting through boxes of old black and white photographs. The porch swing would gently glide us back and forth as she sipped her coffee and I drank my orange juice with their pet dove, Noah, cooing away in the background. I'd snuggle up to her and listen as she told me stories. Now that I think about it, MaBelle spent a lot of time teaching me about where I come from and the importance of family. It is something that I value and cherish all these years later. So, every night on my way home, as I follow the curve in the road that leads by this small cemetary dating back to 1877, I'm not scared or supersticious, instead I smile and remember stories.
I wanted to embrace the month of October and the season of fall, but with temperatures still climbing into the upper 80s it proved to be a bit of a challenge. This dress, however, turned out to be the perfect piece for a day like today. The color screams fall and even though it covers from neck to toe, its still sexy with the way the it cuts up to the neck to show off my shoulders. Plus you can't go wrong with the ascot neckline, so very 70s.
Wearing vintage dress from tag*, Walmart hoops, Payless sandals, thrifted cuff bracelet and parasol, and vintage shawl from Night and Day Vintage in Chicago.

Enjoying this beautiful day here at the store with The Grateful Dead playing, the door propped open and lots of new merchandise to keep me busy!
