mad hatter

A closer look...
It was a cold rainy day yesterday and we were out of time, so just did a quick doorway picture...

Total cost of outfit: about $100

On this Thanksgiving Eve I would like to take a moment to share a few things for which I am truly truly thankful...
-All of my amazing customers who sometimes just pop into the store to say hi
-Getting to be surrounded by tons of beautiful and fun vintage pieces every day
-Terri, who is hands-down the most selfless, helpful, thoughtful mom around. I don't know what the store or I would do without her
-Having the priveledge to come home every night to a wonderful handsome man who takes such good care of me and our family
-Jenna, Kevin, Mary, Liz, Daniel, Jarrett, Tiffany and Becky...some of the best friends (and cousin) a girl could have
-Snuggling with the two best dogs ever - Jackson, with his wiggly butt, and Micah with her stinky attitude never fail to make me laugh. There's nothing like the unconditional love of a dog.
-My new tea kettle that whistles for me every morning
-The abundance of personal fashion blogs out there that occupy way too much of my time but always keep me inspired
-My hat collection - if you follow this blog then you know how I feel about hats
-To be celebrating my 29th birthday next week! Ready to enjoy the last year of my 20s and looking forward to what the next decade will bring...
And what are you thankful for?!
Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful holiday filled with lots of good food, friends and family.

breathing in the sunshine

details details
plaids and tassels
As much as I love my store there are certain days when I'd so much rather be living life outside instead of working. Today is one of those days. So before heading into the store, I made sure to spend a moment standing outside breathing in the sunshine. Its amazing what a little dose of Vitamin D and Mother Nature can do for the soul. Ah, fall, how you make me smile :)
Loving the subtle plaid and cropped leg of my thrifted pants and how perfectly paired they are with my new shoes. Another pair I picked up from DSW last week. The neutral color is perfect, but it was the thick heel and tassels that really sold me on them. Not to mention how comfortable they are!
Wearing thrifted JCrew pants, vintage blouse, faux fur vest and necklace from tag*, thrifted hat and belt, random ring, favorite gold watch and DSW shoes.
Total cost of outfit: about $95

Can't wait to spend the evening with Kev - we're gettin dressed up real snazzy so I'm sure some pictures will be coming soon.

oh the boots

Today's outfit all started with the the boots...oh the boots (sigh). I'm in love with these leopard booties I picked up last week from DSW. The print, the zipper, the heel - its all perfect! They will go with so many different outfits and I plan on styling them a million different ways, but today I went with a 60s rock 'n roll vibe. Dug around in my closet room (a post regarding said room is coming soon!) and came up with round mirrored glasses, tie-dye, pleather and fur to complete the look - and I'm diggin' it!
Wearing thrifted fur vest, vintage DIY tie-dye duster vest and sunglasses from tag*, F21 tank and leggings, DIY leather choker, and cuff bracelet from Andrea's Boutique.
Total cost of outfit: about $90

I can't get enough of hats lately! I was looking back through some of my recent outfit posts and noticed I've been rocking hats A LOT. Not that I am surprised, we all know I love a good hat! Plus, they are simply the best answer to a bad hair day.
Happy Thursday!
Friday's just around the corner...

how sick is that wallpaper??

Kevin and I spent last night talking, munching, smoking, sipping, watching, and catching up. The perfect evening!
How sick is that wallpaper behind me in the first photo?! My hat totally matches it too! These pictures were taken at Kev's new place and I'm obsessed with that wall. And I can't wait to see how Kevin's bedroom turns out. His inspiration is Jeannie's room at the bottom of her bottle from the old 'I Dream of Jeannie' tv show. Its going to be awesome.
Wearing old Levis skinny jeans, thrifted vintage blouse and hat, vintage and random jewelry, and heels purchased online.
Total cost of outfit: about $45

she'd tell me stories

I drive by this little cemetary every night on my way home and I've always thought it would be a great spot for a blog picture. With the sun shining and the leaves turning, it seemed as though there was no day but today.
I'm not a person who finds cemetaries scary. My grandma used to take me to the cemetary in Palmyra, Missouri where a lot of our family is buried. We'd spend warm summer afternoons laying on the ground doing grave rubbings with paper and charcoal. She'd tell me stories and reminisce about her childhood. She used to drive me around the small towns where she grew up - we'd pull off the side of the road, set up lawn chairs, sketch pictures of old rundown barns...and she'd tell me stories. We'd spend lazy summer mornings on her front porch sifting through boxes of old black and white photographs. The porch swing would gently glide us back and forth as she sipped her coffee and I drank my orange juice with their pet dove, Noah, cooing away in the background. I'd snuggle up to her and listen as she told me stories. Now that I think about it, MaBelle spent a lot of time teaching me about where I come from and the importance of family. It is something that I value and cherish all these years later. So, every night on my way home, as I follow the curve in the road that leads by this small cemetary dating back to 1877, I'm not scared or supersticious, instead I smile and remember stories.
I wanted to embrace the month of October and the season of fall, but with temperatures still climbing into the upper 80s it proved to be a bit of a challenge. This dress, however, turned out to be the perfect piece for a day like today. The color screams fall and even though it covers from neck to toe, its still sexy with the way the it cuts up to the neck to show off my shoulders. Plus you can't go wrong with the ascot neckline, so very 70s.
Wearing vintage dress from tag*, Walmart hoops, Payless sandals, thrifted cuff bracelet and parasol, and vintage shawl from Night and Day Vintage in Chicago.
Total cost of outfit: about $65
Enjoying this beautiful day here at the store with The Grateful Dead playing, the door propped open and lots of new merchandise to keep me busy!

was feeling a little rock n' roll today

who says sparkle is only for the nighttime??

Zoomin' in...
I know what you're thinking...
"Finally, a picture from somewhere other than in front of the store!"
Well, at least that's what I'm thinking :)
We've been so busy over the past few months, I've had a hard time getting it together in the mornings with time to spare for a picture anywhere but at the store. But I miss fun backdrops for my blog pics, so I'm trying to get back on the horse!
Here I am yesterday posing in an ally off Delmar wearing my mom's fabulous gold skirt from the 80s! This is my disco glamour safari look - Who says sparkle is only for the nighttime?!
Wearing Mom's vintage gold skirt, Marshalls shirt, gifted vintage belt, vintage necklace from tag*, random gold ring, and F21 animal print heels.

can't wait to wear it again

A closer look...
I found this crochet dress on my last thrift store shopping trip. I love that it is navy blue and not black - its a little more unexpected that way.  Can't wait to wear it again with Mary Janes and a choker - gotta embrace the 90s-ness of it!
Wearing thrifted crochet dress, vintage slip from The Vintage Haberdashery, vintage peacock belt from Andrea's Boutique, vintage ring from tag*, and old Nine West boots from Marshalls.

because you can't go wrong with a maxi skirt and a kickass hat

As you know, I love love love long dresses. Well, I realized I love love love long skirts just as much, but don't have nearly as many in my closet as I should. So when I came across this little cutie on the clearance rack at Marshalls I had to snatch it up!
I spent yesterday morning and early afternoon running errands all over town and then headed into the store to work the rest of the day, so I needed an outfit that would be comfortable but still fashionable. Decided this was the perfect opportunity to break out my new skirt, because you can't go wrong with a maxi skirt and a kickass hat. And can we talk about this hat for a sec...I know I've featured it here before, but I just have to mention how awesome it is again. I scored it at Goodwill for 3 bucks and it is already proven itself to be my go-to hat for the season.
Wearing skirt from Marshalls, Target tee and sandals, thrifted vintage hat and bracelets, and favorite Aldo purse (I'm going to have to retire it for the season here pretty soon and will need a new awesome bag for fall and winter....perhaps I should go check out Aldo again!)
Total cost of outfit: about $75
Today is my last day working the store for the week, as my man and I are heading to Kansas City tomorrow for his brother's wedding!! I am so excited and beyond thrilled for the bride and groom! We couldn't ask for a better woman to marry his little brother! Congratulations Justin and Ashley!!!
Let the festivities begin....

transitioning into fall

Both the weather and my wardrobe are transitioning into fall...and I'm loving it! While I love summer - my favorite time of year is September through January and that time is upon us once again :)
The best way to transition into fall - trade sandals for boots and straw fedoras for pageboy caps.
Done.
Wearing vintage dress and bracelet from tag*, Nine West boots, thrifted vintage hat, favorite gold watch and Walmart hoops.
Total cost of outfit: about $55
Almost Friday....

amazing shawl

I found this amazing shawl at Night and Day Vintage, a wonderful vintage shop stocked full of so many great pieces and owned by the loveliest woman. I had so much fun shopping her store and talking with her about our love of vintage :) This shawl is one of 4 amazing purchases, can't wait to show off the rest! I almost didn't get it because I wasn't sure I would use it, but it has already proven to be a new favorite piece. Love it!
I think I also need to take a moment to talk about my $3 Goodwill hat find! It is definitely my new favorite hat for fall - and has reminded me of my love of hats.
Wearing Seven For All Mankind bells, random tank, vintage sweater and ring from tag*, thrifted hat, vintage shawl from Night and Day Vintage, vintage earrings from Andrea's Boutique, street fair purse, and Target wedges.

Little Gem

A closer look...

I scored this little gem on a trip to the Goodwill Outlet here in downtown STL. A trip there requires time, patience, digging, and hand sanitizer - but when you find beauties like this, its totally worth it! Especially when it cost under $1. Just needed an overnight soak in oxyclean and it was ready to be on display!
Wearing thrifted vintage poncho, H&M skinny jeans, my "ski boots" wedges and random tank and earrings.
Total cost of outfit: about $130

one skirt, two ways...

I have this habit of wearing skirts as dresses so I decided to do a quick post showing how I rocked one skirt as a skirt, and then the next day as a dress.
Above I'm wearing a thrifted vintage skirt, Kohls tank, old random studded belt, random bracelets, vintage ring and Target wedges.
Total cost of outfit: about $35
And for a totally different look with the same skirt...

And again, wearing thrifted vintage skirt (as a dress), vintage necklaces from tag*, F21 bag, and my awesome new shoe/boot/wedge hybrids. (My man makes fun of them and calls them my "ski boots" - but what does he know?! I heart them so much!)
Total cost of outfit: about $125
*tag - Timeless Authentic Garments - my vintage shop in The Loop, University City, Missouri
So,now I challenge you to wear a skirt as a dress, or to shop your closet and find different ways to wear pieces you love. Its budget-friendly and forces you to be a little creative. As far as I'm concerned, there are no rules when it comes to fashion and your personal style, so have some fun with it!
Happy Wednesday!

go figure

Sorry for my lack of posts yet again! I promise it won't continue this way forever, life this summer just happens to be insanely busy! Not that I'm complaining, because its been a seriously awesome past few months. A few of the things that have kept me busy....
-A trip to Chicago with my mom and Grandma in June to attend a wedding shower thrown for my brother's (then) fiance, Megan
-A few Cardinals games with my man (A St. Louis must for every summer!)
-Hosted a St. Louis shower at our house for Megan
-The U2 concert at Busch Stadium with my man (freakin' awesome!!)
-Another trip to Chicago at the beginning of August to see Paul McCartney at Wrigley Field with my brother (also freakin' awesome!) - plus I managed to see one of my very best friends, Mary, and squeeze in a little vintage shopping :)
-And one more trip to Chicago this past weekend for my brother's wedding! Ryan and I also went up a day early to see some of our favorite people, Lisa and Chris!
Needless to say, its been a bit hectic and I have sucked at taking outfit pictures as often as I should have. But I do have a few saved up on my camera, and am getting back into the swing of things so hopefully my posts won't be so few and far between.
Anyway...
Here I am wearing one of my favorite dresses. Go figure, right? Bright, bold, colorful, and crazy print...duh! Oh, and I forgot to take a picture of the back, but its a seriously cool razor-back. Like, I said, one of my favorites!
Wearing vintage dress and ring from tag*, old Marshalls wedges and Walmart hoop earrings
Total cost of outfit: about $25

a constant image of inspiration

I've mentioned this before, but in case you didn't know, I have a thing for butterflies. Pretty much always have. In the church where I grew up, butterflies represented "new life" and I find that really lovely. I love that they start out as caterpillers and transform into beautiful winged creatures. To me, they are a reminder that we are always able to transform ourselves, strive to do better, be better, become a more beautiful version of ourselves. My first tattoo was a butterfly, as was my second and my third, which you've maybe noticed is on the inside of my right wrist, a constant image of inspiration.
That said, I don't wear a lot of butterlies. I am very choosey when it comes to adding butterfly pieces to my wardrobe. But this dress was an absolute must-have! How did I not already own a purple vintage one-shouldered, butterfly print maxi dress??
Love. It.
Wearing vintage dress from tag*, old Marshalls wedges, Target earrings and thrifted cuff.
Total cost of outfit: about $20
Lots and lots to do in the shop today, so gotta run!
Happy Wednesday!
